Ray Parker received a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame March 6, 2014. PopSource TV News was on location and witnessed Ray Parker Jr. receiving his Star, an honor so deserving of a man of many talents.

The famed musician has decades of industry credits as a songwriter, musician, producer, guitarist and hitmaker. As reported by Andrew Barker from Variety, his famed hit “Ghostbusters,” went on to top the Billboard singles chart for three straight weeks.

Of course, long before he made “Who you gonna call?” an international catchphrase, Parker, who’ll be 60 in May, was one of the first names on the Motown call sheet as a studio guitarist. At age 13, he played his first gigs at Detroit’s legendary 20 Grand club, backing up the likes of the Spinners, the Temptations and Gladys Knight. He cut his first studio session — at the behest of legendary Motown songwriting team Holland-Dozier-Holland — at 16. And by 18, he was playing with Stevie Wonder on a national tour with the Rolling Stones.

Parker’s stock as a studio player rose further when he moved to California, sleeping at Lamont Dozier’s house and later following him from Motown to Hot Wax Records, where he played on his first No. 1 track, Honey Cone’s “Want Ads.”

“He would play certain high riffs on the high strings with this very unique touch,” Dozier remembers. “Like B.B. King has those distinctive licks, Ray came up with these figures that he became well known for. They were so ‘Ray Parker.’ There are certain guitar players where you just know they’re on certain sessions just by hearing it, and he’s one of those guys.”
It took well over a decade for Parker to fully break out as a solo artist — which he did with the help of Clive Davis, whom Parker calls his “personal Moses” — and only after he’d proven his songwriting chops penning tunes for Barry White, Chaka Khan and Leo Sayer. Though it was never for lack of ambition that he stayed behind the scenes.

“I used to walk around in those days with a black T-shirt that had gold letters that said: ‘I’m a Fucking Genius.’ I used to wear it everywhere,” Parker recalls. “I’ve never wanted to blend in. I was always kind of a big-mouthed guy, from the Muhammad Ali school.”

Recording as Raydio, Parker notched a top 10 hit right off the blocks with 1978’s “Jack and Jill,” and reached No. 4 under his own name with 1982’s “The Other Woman.”

Jennifer Hudson was honored today with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in front of the W Hollywood Hotel. PopSource TV was on location to witness the epic moment for Hudson. Clive Davis introduced the superstar as she stood beside him fighting back tears. Hudson’s long-time beau David Otunga and son were also in attendance. “We are so happy to honor Jennifer Hudson with a star on the Walk of Fame. She is a great talent and a great addition to our Walk of Fame,” stated Ana Martinez, Producer of the Walk of Fame ceremonies. “Fans from all over the world have been waiting for this special day since we announced Jennifer’s selection for the star,” added Martinez.

Emcee Leron Gubler, President & CEO of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce unveiled the 2,512th star in the category of Recording at 6262 Hollywood Boulevard in the category of Recording.

As an Academy Award©-winning actress, and Grammy Award-winning singer, Hudson is an extraordinary talent.  From her humble Chicago beginnings, Hudson began singing in a small Chicago church where, week after week, according to sources, she brought the congregation to its feet. It’s no wonder why she has gained worldwide acclaim.

Hudson has most recently been seen in director George Tillman Jr.’s “The Inevitable Defeat of Mister and Pete”, which premiered at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival and was released in October. The beautifully observed film features Hudson as a drug-addicted mother, “Gloria,” who abandons her son to fend for himself in the projects of New York City for a summer after she’s arrested. Just prior in September, Hudson was seen starring alongside Terrence Howard in Darrell Roodt’s “Winnie Mandela,” in which she plays the titular role of activist, politician and ex-wife to South African President and revolutionary Nelson Mandela.

Hudson was honored with the privilege to perform at the Presidential Inauguration, Super Bowl XLVII and the Academy Awards© in a tribute to movie musicals. In addition, she was also honored by the Recording Academy at the Annual Grammy’s on the Hill for her philanthropic efforts, specifically with her and her sister’s organization, the Julian D. King Gift Foundation. Hudson was also honored at VH1’s Do Something Awards for her charitable work and was honored again in October with the Samsung Galaxy Impact Award at Variety’s Power of Women luncheon.

In 2007, Hudson won an Academy Award© for her role as “Effie” in the smash hit “Dreamgirls,” an adaptation of the Broadway musical.  Her breakout film performance also garnered a Golden Globe Award, a Screen Actors Guild Award, a BAFTA and an NAACP Image Award. Additional credits include being honored by the Broadcast Film Critics Association, the National Board of Review and being named “Entertainer of the Year” at the Soul Train Awards.

Hudson’s 2008 debut self-titled album won a Grammy Award for “Best R & B Album,” which was presented by one of Hudson’s idols, Whitney Houston. She also received three additional nominations including “Best Female R&B Vocal Performance,” “Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals” and “Best R&B Song.” The album then went on to win three awards at the 2009 NAACP Image Awards including “Best Album.” The RIAA Gold Certified album entered Billboard’s Top 200 at No. 2 and marked the biggest first week sales for an R&B female entry since 2004 and has sold more than 1.1 million albums worldwide.

Meagan Good is set to star in a new drama series on NBC called “Deception.” According to the Chicago Defender, the overall premise is similar to traditional soap operas but takes a slightly different approach revealing many secrets early on including Vivian’s killer, which surprisingly is not the driving force behind the show.

As the leading lady, Good will be playing the role of undercover detective Joanna Lacasto. In the leading role, she plays a detective that goes undercover to the wealthy family she grew up in as a maid’s daughter to solve a murder.

Meagan describes her character, Joanna, in “Deception” as tough, ambitious, sarcastic and a little vulnerable, NBC revealed.

The show will also star Laz Alonso, who will play her former lover Will Sacovitch. Alonzo and Good are no strangers when it comes to working together on the same set. The two starred in 2007’s “Stomp The Yard” as well as “Jumping the Broom”, which was released in 2011.

Good has a long history of working in the entertainment industry, and is a sought-after talent in Hollywood. She recently completed a season-long feature on Showtime’s acclaimed series “Californication,” as well as a role in “Think Like a Man,” the feature film based on the best-selling book by Steve Harvey.

Deception debuts on January 7, 2013 at 10 PM EST on NBC.
