The “Shades of Blue” actress begins her residency today at Planet Hollywood’s The Axis. Lopez is commissioned for 20 dates at a rate of $350,000 per show, according to TMZ. Lopez will be singing her greatest hits and delivering an eye-appealing entertaining spectacular.
The 46-year-old, reportedly has been putting in the work to ensure the residency launches without a hitch and was seen rehearsing on with her kids in tow, according to inside sources.
Lopez joins the ranks of Celine Dion, Mariah Carey, Britney Spears, and other powerhouses in music who have all taken to Las Vegas to showcase their talents on a global stage.
“I think it’s ludicrous,” she said. “Because we have to make up our minds. Either we want segregation or integration.”
The outspoken actress, who turned 49 on Wednesday, also stated that she’s glad the issue has finally received some attention, but in order for things to change, we need to get rid of the “double standard” currently in place.
“If we don’t want segregation, then we need to get rid of channels like BET, and the BET Awards and the Image Awards, where you’re only awarded if you’re black,” she explained. “If it were the other way around, we would be up in arms. It’s a double standard.”
Dash continued on, arguing that because there’s no White History Month, a Black History Month shouldn’t exist either.
“What I find astounding is that we’ve had a president who is black in office for the past eight years, who gets most of his funding from the liberal elite in Hollywood,” she added, referring to President Barack Obama. “Yet, there are not very many roles for people of color. How can that be? And why is it just now being addressed?”
“He did a great job in the movie, but at the same time, what does that say about how people are selected for these awards?” Doocy asked Dash.
“Right. That’s assuming they’re selected by race, which I think would be a disservice to the people who are looking at the films and making the choices,” she said. “Maybe [the Academy] need[s] to be more, you know, integrated, and there needs to be more diverse people in the process of electing.”
Doocy then explained that, although the Academy demographics are kept secret, he claims they are “predominately white males” based on investigations that have come to light.
“I hope they’re looking for the best movies and the best actors,” Dash said in response to Doocy’s statement. “The good news is, there’s attention brought to it now. But, like I said, over the past eight years, we’ve had a president who’s black, who gets his funding mainly from Hollywood. ‘The elite liberals.’ So, it’s odd to me that this has now become such an issue.”
This, of course, isn’t the first time Dash has spoken out against issues she’s passionate about. Last February, she also made an appearance on Fox & Friends where she revealed she was “appalled” by the 2015 Academy Awards ceremony, specifically calling out Patricia Arquette for her lack of history knowledge.
Last month, Dash was suspended for two weeks by Fox News after delivering NSFW language on-air while talking about Obama’s speech on terrorism one night earlier.
Jennifer Lopez in Las Vegas: Salary, set list and everything you need to know about All I Have residency
Jenny will be swapping the block for the glitz and glamour of Sin City as Jennifer Lopez kicks off her 20-date Las Vegas residency tonight (20 January 2016). Following in the footsteps of the likes of Britney Spears, Cher and Celine Dion, J.Lo will hold court at Planet Hollywood’s The Axis over 20 dates, singing her biggest hits and delivering an all-round entertaining show.
The 46-year-old, who will perform around three shows per week, has been putting in the work to ensure the residency launches without a hitch and was seen rehearsing on 18 January. With her mother Guadalupe, children Max and Emme and best friend Leah Remini watching from the front row, Lopez practiced the choreographed routine for her 2005 single Get Right with her backing dancers.
Speaking about the residency on The Ellen DeGeneres Show just days before her first night, the American Idol judge revealed: “We’ve been rehearsing every day since I did the AMAs [American Music Awards 2015]. We’ve been in there every day creating the show. It was being created before I got there, while I was doing Shades Of Blue, I was working on the music.”
Although many would assume the competition would be fierce amongst the Vegas divas, Lopez says she is a fan of the residencies hosted by other singers, which include Spears and Mariah Carey. Lopez told DeGeneres: “I haven’t spoken to anybody. I went and saw all the shows before I decided to do it. I wanted to see, get a vibe for what it would be like… I’m excited to share the whole thing with them.”
No doubt seats will be filled for J.Lo’s anticipated shows so here is all you need to know about her All I Have residency…
TMZ reports Lopez was offered $350,000 per show ,whereas Spears is earning $310,000 per night for performing at the same venue. However, Spears’ Piece Of Me stint has already spanned two years compared to J.Lo’s total set of 20 shows. Still, J.Lo’s brief residency will earn her an estimated $26.8m.
It is yet to be confirmed which songs she will perform aside from Get Right which she rehearsed, but it is expected J.Lo will run through her biggest hits, including Jenny From The Block, Love Don’t Cost A Thing, On The Floor, Waiting For Tonight and I’m Real.
With a superstar as big as J.Lo headlining Vegas, there are bound to be some surprise guests along the way so speculation is rife some of her collaborators, such as Iggy Azalea, Pitbull, Fat Joe and French Montana could join her on stage.
Lopez’s residency kicks off on 20 January and runs until 12 June 2016.
As acknowledged early in Chris Heath’s GQ profile of R. Kelly, the singer has never really spoken much about the various accusations lobbed against him throughout his career: alleged sex with minors, a marriage to a then-underage Aaliyah, that sex tape. Recently, R. Kelly walked off the set of HuffPost Live after repeatedly refusing to answer any questions about the controversies that have clouded his career. However, Kelly agreed to talk about all of it in a three-day interview featured in GQ’s February issue.
Speaking to the sexual abuse he suffered at the hands of a female relative as a child, Kelly refers to a “generational curse” within his family in which victims grow up to be victimizers, the obvious elephant in the room being the multiple women who’ve alleged that Kelly had sex with them before they were 18.
Responding to this later, Kelly opens up a whole new can of worms:
Generational curse doesn’t mean that the curse can’t be broken. Just like having no father, that’s a generational curse. Which is why, when my kids were born, I was Bill Cosby in the house. You know, the good one. You know, let’s be clear there: how we saw Bill Cosby when we were coming up.
Also like Cosby, Kelly has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing with any of his accusers; he has never been convicted of a crime relating to any of the accusations made against him.
I think, man, abso-effing-lutely I’ve been treated unfair. Yes. I’m not, you know, this innocent guy with a halo over his head. No, I love women. Do I like to sleep with underage girls? Absolutely not. I’ve said it a million times. But do I have people trying to destroy my career? Absolutely.
As for the 50+ accusations of sexual assault lobbed against Cosby, R. Kelly claims he’s not sure.
“Well, my opinion on that is, I don’t know what happened,” Kelly says. “[A]ll I can say is that it was a long time ago. And when I look on TV and I see the 70-, 80-, 90-year-old ladies talking about what happened when they were 17, 18, or 19, there’s something strange about it. … [W]hen you wait 70 years, 50 years, 40 years, to say something that simple, it’s strange. You know why I say that is because it happened to me, and it wasn’t true.”
Kelly also speaks — almost — to the rumor that he married Aaliyah when she was 15 and he was 27, saying that he doesn’t speak about it at the behest of her parents. (Aaliyah died in a plane crash in 2001 when she was 22.)
Well, unfortunately when there’s two parties involved in any situation, both parties have to be respected. Sometimes you have to sacrifice yourself in a way to respect someone else’s wishes, and to respect someone else’s passing…. People can say, “Hey, well, he’s just trying to protect hisself.” Well, I have nothing to protect myself from. I’m still successful.
Part-time rapper and full-time internet troll Meek Mill is at it again. This time he and 50 Cent are feuding because there wasn’t anything good on TV and they were both out of lives on Candy Crush.
In a track on Meek’s new EP 4/4 called “Gave ‘Em Hope,” the Philly rapper takes several digs at 50 Cent, the most incendiary accusation being that 50 Cent is gay, which is something that rival rappers have been saying about 50 for years. “I got 50 reasons say you’re taking dick,” Nicki Minaj’s boyfriend raps in the second verse.
And so the two were off.
In a series of Instagram posts, 50 fired back at Meek: “LMAO Hey s**t head, your career is over already,” 50 wrote. “You better focus on getting Nikki [sic] pregnant so you can at least get child support.”
50 also began referring to Meek Mill as “Meeka,” posting a photo of Meek Mill’s face Photoshopped onto a woman’s body, referencing Caitlyn Jenner’s Vanity Fair cover. In several other posts, 50 repeatedly called Meek “retarded.”
The Winner: Admittedly, 50 set a low bar, managing to be transphobic, ableist, and misspelling the name of one of the biggest rappers in the game all at once. This one goes to Meek.
As he did with Meek’s last feud, Toronto politician Norm Kelly got involved, tweeting at Meek a photo of himself holding the letter “L,” as in loser.
In a lengthy response, Meek Mill posted a photo of himself holding just a whole bunch of cash, addressing both 50 and Norm’s disses.
“Ya son hate you smfh!” Meek wrote of 50. “Ya swag on below ‘0’ lol hold up….. U always hating on [P]uff [Daddy] and Hov [Jay Z] other go getters from ya city…… U going broke and you miserable …. U really miserable bro…. You like 40 on the internet all day.”
As for Norm Kelly, Meek called him an “old white racist man.”
Kelly fired back, posting Meek’s photo on Twitter writing, “When your girl lets you take pics with her money.”
Meek responded on Instagram, saying he’d donate $50,000 to help the city out. 50 also responded, but with another meme, instead of a contribution. “You know you only trying to donate so you can try and use it in court 💩head,” he wrote. “You don’t have money to give away. When Nikki [again, sic] find out you playing with her money boy, oh boy your [sic] in for it.”
The Winner: Is Meek going to pull through with a win???
In a post, ironically, on Instagram, The Game criticized the online nature of Meek and 50’s feud which, as you may have noticed, has only involved one song but a whole host of memes.
“So, this is what it’s come to these days???” The Game wrote. “WTF happened to REAL hip hop & the classic way of handling rap feuds??? Never thought I’d see the day when rap beefs were won over iPhone apps & s**t. We went from learning from & respecting the O.G.’s to learning from & depending on I.G.’s lol.”
