Ava DuVernay says she is still in full support of Black Panther, but she is not accepting the offer to direct the film. In a new interview with Essence. com, the ‘Selma’ director reveals that she was offered the job, but that after much consideration she decided to pass.

“I guess I’ll declare my independence from this rumor on 4th of July weekend and Essence weekend,” the Selma director said during the Essence Festival in New Orleans.

“I’m not signing on to direct Black Panther,” she added. “I think I’ll just say we had different ideas about what the story would be. Marvel has a certain way of doing things and I think they’re fantastic and a lot of people love what they do. I loved that they reached out to me.”

DuVernay, who is currently filming a love story set against Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, makes it clear that despite turning down the opportunity to be involved with the Black Panther movie, she is still in full support of the film.

“I love the character of Black Panther, the nation of Wakanda and all that could be visually. I wish them well and will be first in line to see it.”

According to Financial Juneteenth, Bishop TD Jakes has filed a lawsuit against Young Jeezy for using a passage of one of his sermons on the remix of his song, ‘Holy Ghost.’ The remix also featured popular rapper Kendrick Lamar.

A statement was released by TD Jakes Ministries: “SPECIAL NOTICE: The ‘Holy Ghost’ remix by Jeezy featuring Kendrick Lamar was produced without the knowledge or consent of T.D. Jakes, TDJ Enterprises, Dexterity Music or its associated companies. We are taking the necessary legal actions to stop the unauthorized use of T.D. Jakes’ intellectual property.”

The basis of the song centers on the type of lifestyle the two rappers are living as opposed to the lifestyle they grew up with. The conflicts of being a celebrity yet knowing that some of the things they do and the way they are isn’t necessarily the correct way to live.
