The Will Rogers Motion Picture Pioneers Foundation announced today that Donna Langley, Chairman of Universal Pictures, will receive the 2016 Pioneer of the Year honor on April 13th at CinemaCon in Las Vegas.

Since starting with Universal Pictures 15 years ago, Langley is now in her third year as the sole chairman of the film studio. She oversees all aspects of Universal’s production and marketing operations worldwide, including the international production and acquisitions arm as well as the studio’s specialty division, Focus Features. Under Langley’s leadership, 2015 marked the highest-grossing domestic, international and worldwide box-office years, ever, in any studio’s history.

Langley has worked on some of the biggest hits ever to be released by Universal, including many of its franchises—the latest entries of which include Jurassic World, which had the second-biggest worldwide opening weekend in history and is currently the fourth-highest-grossing movie of all time, and Furious 7, which stands as the sixth-highest-grossing movie ever. 2015 also marked the first time any studio tallied three films to cross a billion dollars at the worldwide box office, with Furious 7, Jurassic World and Minions all reaching that milestone.

During her tenure with Universal, Langley has been a driving force behind some of the studio’s biggest hits, including Fifty Shades of Grey, Unbroken, Neighbors, the Academy Award®-winning Les Misérables, Pitch Perfect, Ted, Bridesmaids, Mamma Mia!, Knocked Up and Wanted, among others. Langley is credited with reinvigorating and growing some of Universal’s most lucrative and popular franchises including the Fast & Furious series, which has grossed more than $3.9 billion, and Bourne series.

Langley was named The Hollywood Reporter‘s Executive of the Year in 2015 and has been regularly featured in its Top 100 Women in Entertainment issue. She has also been featured on Forbes “World’s 100 Most Powerful Women” list.

The Pioneer of the Year dinner, an industry tradition for over 70 years, honors leaders of the motion picture industry and within the philanthropic community. Past honorees include Cecil B. DeMille, Jack Warner, Darryl F. Zanuck, Jack Valenti, Terry Semel, Sumner Redstone, Sherry Lansing, Alan Horn, Kathleen Kennedy, Jeffrey Katzenberg, Tom Sherak and the 2015 honoree, Jim Gianopulos. Proceeds from the event benefit the Pioneers Assistance Fund (PAF), an industry charity that helps individuals who work in theatrical entertainment, who are encountering an illness, injury or life-changing event.

Urban Decay and Gwen Stefani Set for a Spring Collection Launch

Published by:

gwen

Urban Decay announces the second phase of their collaboration with singer and fashion entrepreneur Gwen Stefani, set to launch this spring.

According to Urban Decay, this limited-edition collection—the brand’s first-ever celebrity designer collaboration—was a true partnership with Stefani, who worked closely with Urban Decay, guiding every detail of the collection, from the shades to the packaging. Urban Decay Chief Creative Officer and Founding Partner Wende Zomnir carefully crafted each product with Stefani, creating the exact shades Stefani always wished she had in her personal makeup collection.

The collaboration kicked off in late 2015 with the release of the UD | Gwen Stefani Eyeshadow Palette. Stefani worked with Urban Decay to design and develop her ultimate eyeshadow collection, which features her 15 essential shades in a luxe case. Now, Urban Decay introduces the rest of the UD | Gwen Stefani collection, launching this spring.

Since Stefani is known for her iconic lip looks, Zomnir knew the collection wouldn’t be complete without lipstick. Stefani worked with Urban Decay to develop her perfect colors and ideal textures, and together they created her eight must-have lipstick shades. Every one features UD’s proprietary Pigment Infusion System™—for a super-creamy texture, rich payout and superior color dispersion, added the company.

To complement the UD | Gwen Stefani Lipstick shades, the collection includes six coordinating shades of 24/7 Glide-On Lip Pencil. This waterproof formula not only defines lips, but also primes to help lip color last longer.

Urban Decay also worked with Stefani to create a palette that contained all her essentials for glowing, contoured skin. The UD | Gwen Stefani Blush Palette features six versatile shades of blush, bronzer and highlighter—all in UD’s Afterglow 8-Hour formula.

Finally, the limited-edition UD | Gwen Stefani Brow Box, a product the singer was especially passionate about, holds two versatile brow powder shades, setting wax, mini tweezers, two mini angled brushes and two mirrors (one magnifying and one regular).

The UD | Gwen Stefani spring collection will be available through Sephora, Ulta Beauty and Macy’s on January 29, 2016.

The City Gala Fundraiser (http://www.CityGala.org) honors former astronaut Buzz Aldrin and American businessman and philanthropist John Paul DeJoria (co-founder, Paul Mitchell, John Paul Pet, ROK Mobile, and The Patron Spirits Company) at the Playboy Mansion in Los Angeles, immediately following The 58th Annual GRAMMYs® on Monday, February 15, 2016. City Gala 2016 benefits Community Inspiring Today’s Youth (CITY), a non-profit organization that supports and mentors underserved teens and young adults in developing their own start-up businesses in Los Angeles. Keynote speaker is entrepreneur and philanthropist Sir Richard Branson (founder, Virgin Group).

Aldrin, an American engineer, former astronaut and the second person to walk on the moon, has supported charitable and philanthropic efforts through Buzz Aldrin’s Share Space Foundation. At the event, The City Gala will present Aldrin with the City Gala Lifetime Achievement Award.

Aldrin, age 86, says, “Well, I guess you could say that I’ve worked a lifetime to earn this award, and I’m blessed to receive it on such a beautiful charitable night, alongside some of the most brilliant minds of our time.”

DeJoria, a member of The Giving Pledge, has supported charitable and philanthropic efforts through his Peace, Love and Happiness Foundation for over a decade. At the event, The City Gala will present DeJoria the Legacy of Inspiration Award. The honor is meant to inspire other high net worth individuals to tell the story of their rise to success, their challenges, and ultimately their accomplishment of being able to give forward.

DeJoria says, “On the music industry’s biggest night, it is exciting to know that we have such an esteemed group of individuals coming together to celebrate and support CITY’s young entrepreneurs. Being honored by the organization supporting these kids is a reminder that we all had to start somewhere, and in the beginning, someone gave us a chance to succeed.”

Emcee for the night is Jeff Timmons of the Grammy-nominated pop group 98 Degrees. The event is an exclusive invitation-only black tie fundraiser featuring an open bar, open buffet, honor ceremonies, live musical entertainment, a charitable poker tournament, tours of the Playboy Mansion grounds, celebrity meet and greets, a fashion show, as well as a live and silent auction.

Sponsors include JetSmarter, Seed Invest, BELLA Magazine, OK! TV, Modern Luxury Angeleno, Hemp Blue, Imbue Model Management and AirVuz.

Funds raised at the charity gala will support CITY and its non-profit programs for LA youth, as well From the Heart Productions, Fire Life Foundation, The Scheer Foundation and Supporting Our Servicemen (SOS).

The first City Gala took place on Oscars night in 2014, featuring keynote speaker James Cameron and special guests Charlize Theron, Sean Penn, Halle Berry, Tyrese Gibson, Gene Simmons and Paris Hilton, as well as live musical entertainment provided by Ne-Yo. The event raised over $350,000 for charitable causes.

Corey Hawkins knows how to keep it moving.

Fresh off his arc on the hugely popular AMC series The Walking Dead and as Dr. Dre in the blockbuster film Straight Outta Compton, the star just inked a deal as the male lead in 24: Legacy.

The new Fox show is a reboot of the previous 24, but with new faces and characters led by Eric Carter (Hawkins), reports Deadline.

24: Legacy, directed by Stephen Hopkins (who worked on the original 24 pilot), and written by 24 veterans Manny Coto and Evan Katz. The new 24: Legacy centers on military hero Eric Carter (Hawkins) and chronicles his return to the U.S. and the trouble that follows him back – compelling him to ask CTU for help in saving his life, and stopping what potentially could be one of the largest-scale terror attacks on American soil.

Earlier this month, FOX ordered a pilot for 24: Legacy. Legacy will retain 24’s signature one episode and one hour format. Dana Walden said “never say never” to appearances from the original series’ characters.

The Juilliard graduate will next be seen in Legendary’s Kong: Skull Island.

Gabrielle Union Is The New Face for Covet Fashion App

Published by:

screen322x572

Mobile styling app Covet Fashion has tapped Gabrielle Union as their newest host. For the next thirty days, the 43-year-old Being Mary Jane actress will act as the app’s featured star. During that time, users will have access to Gabrielle’s beauty tips and personal fashions, as well as a candid look inside her world, behind the scenes.

Gabrielle is one of only two hosts ever for Covet Fashion. Emma Roberts helped launch the app last month. Unlike other styling apps that highlight a single celebrity for their lifetime, Covet Fashion features a different host every month in an attempt to appeal to a larger and more diverse audience.

Gabrielle was chosen because she is a “style icon who is driven, intelligent and an inspiring role model who motivates women with both her forward-thinking and her chic style,” according to Blair Ethington, SVP for the app.

“I am absolutely thrilled to partner with Covet because it’s pioneering a new way to engage with my fans and share my passion for style while also giving them a glimpse into my very busy life,” said Union.

The Covet Fashion app can be download via Google Play and the App Store.
