Coldplay Is The First Artist To Be Confirmed For Pepsi Super Bowl 50 Halftime Show

Global superstars COLDPLAY, winners of seven Grammy Awards, will perform at the PEPSI SUPER BOWL 50 HALFTIME SHOW on CBS Sunday, Feb. 7, 2016, the NFL announced today during halftime of the Thursday Night Football game between the Green Bay Packers and Detroit Lions on CBS and NFL Network.

This announcement is just the beginning. Coldplay front man Chris Martin is designing a show that will echo elements of the NFL’s On the Fifty campaign – honoring the past, recognizing the present and looking ahead to the next 50 years, including other special artists. For the first-time ever, Pepsi will give fans behind-the-scenes access to how this monumental show will come together at Pepsi.com.

Beginning Jan. 11, a digital mini-series, “Pepsi Presents: The Super Bowl Halftime Show Show” will launch on Pepsi.com offering fans an exclusive, all-access view of what it takes to create the biggest music event of the year in the middle of the biggest sports event of the year, Super Bowl 50.

Coldplay joins an esteemed list of recent halftime acts including Katy Perry, Bruno Mars, Beyoncé, Madonna, The Who, Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Prince, the Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, U2 and more.

Coldplay is one of the world’s most popular musical acts, selling more than 80 million copies of their six No. 1 albums and garnering eight BRITs. The band’s most recent world tour, 2011/12 Mylo Xyloto, was seen by more than three million people in five continents.

Tomorrow, Dec. 4, the band will release their highly anticipated widescreen seventh album, A Head Full Of Dreams – available worldwide for fans to download on iTunes.

Super Bowl 50 marks Pepsi’s fourth year as title sponsor of the Super Bowl Halftime Show, and 14th year as an NFL partner. Pepsi and the NFL have teamed again to provide fans with a halftime experience worthy of pop-culture’s biggest stage.

The Pepsi Super Bowl Halftime Show is the most-watched musical event of the year. More than 118.5 million viewers in the U.S. watched last year’s show, marking the most-watched Halftime Show ever. The Super Bowl and Halftime Show will be broadcast worldwide from Levi’s Stadium in the San Francisco Bay Area.

The PEPSI SUPER BOWL 50 HALFTIME SHOW is an NFL NETWORK PRODUCTION and will be executive produced by RICKY KIRSHNER and directed by HAMISH HAMILTON.

Kerry Washington and Olivia Wilde Among Lead Hosts For The 2015 Global Citizen Festival

Global Citizen has announced the lead hosts of the 2015 Global Citizen Festival, and Kerry Washington and Olivia Wilde are among the A-list celebrities. Rounding our the list are Stephen Colbert, CHIME FOR CHANGE co-founder Salma Hayek Pinault, Deborra-Lee and Hugh Jackman. The festival is presented by Gucci and CHIME FOR CHANGE. The free-ticketed concert, headlined by Pearl Jam, Beyonce, Ed Sheeran and Coldplay, will take place on the Great Lawn of New York’s Central Park on September 26, 2015.

As the lead hosts of the Festival, Stephen Colbert, Salma Hayek Pinault, Deborra-Lee and Hugh Jackman, Kerry Washington and Olivia Wilde will encourage fans and friends to get involved with the Global Citizen movement and help end extreme poverty by 2030. Each host is committed to encouraging actions on GlobalCitizen.org, where fans can participate in the latest Action Journey and enter the draw to win a pair of tickets to the Festival.

Since the headliner announcement of the 2015 Global Citizen Festival in early July, nearly half a million actions have been taken on behalf of the world’s poor. Today’s official host announcement coincides with the next Action Journey release, where global citizens will champion the importance of improving universal access to education, especially for girls and women. Global citizens will be asked to send a voice message to Prime Minister Erna Solberg of Norway, encouraging her to attend the 2015 Global Citizen Festival and make a commitment to universal education. Hugh Evans, CEO of The Global Poverty Project, will be meeting with the Prime Minister next week where he will personally deliver these messages.

MSNBC returns as a media partner of the Global Citizen Festival for the second year. Willie Geist, Janet Mock, Thomas Roberts and Alex Wagner will host the simulcast of the full concert from 4-10 p.m. ET on MSNBC and MSNBC.com live from Central Park. The YouTube livestream will be hosted by AsapSCIENCE and Matthew Santoro on youtube.com/globalcitizen, presented by T-Mobile.Tamron Hall will host NBC’s one-hour television special of the event, produced by director and screenwriter Richard Curtis, to air onSunday, September 27. A one-hour special of the Festival will also air on BBC One in the UK on Monday, September 28 and will be distributed globally through BBC Worldwide. The Festival will be produced by Emmy Award-winning producer, Ken Ehrlich (Grammy Awards). An audio feed of the concert will also be simulcast live on the “Global Citizen Radio” digital station on iHeartRadio, iHeartMedia’s industry-leading digital radio service, making this the fourth year that iHeartMedia has partnered with Global Citizen in support of the Festival. Audio from the Festival will also be digitally streamed on innovative music and entertainment platform, Tidal.com. The Festival will be produced by Emmy Award-winning producer, Ken Ehrlich (Grammy Awards).

In July, Global Citizen announced a new partnership with Gucci and the CHIME FOR CHANGE campaign to build a community of people who want to learn about and take action on the biggest challenges faced by girls and women. CHIME FOR CHANGE was founded by Gucci in 2013 to raise funds and awareness for girls and women’s equality.  Led by co-founders Beyonce Knowles-Carterand Salma Hayek Pinault, the campaign has joined forces with Global Citizen to promote education, health and justice for girls and women around the world.
